A Recovery Friendly Workplace supports the health, wellness, and safety of its employees by
The Recovery to Work initiative with Highland Rivers Behavioral Health is focused on creating resources to make the transition from treatment to employment easier. We believe that recovery is possible and that communities thrive in an environment of acceptance and understanding. Our goal is to support a healthier workforce by bringing our communities together in a way that improves how peers seek employment while working with employers to determine their needs in this process. Together we can create an environment of acceptance and understanding amongst peers, their employers, and the community
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) defines recovery as "a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential." To us, that sounds like the ideal employee! Breaking down stigma starts with education!
Designated workplaces will receive a Toolkit for Employers for quick reference and information sharing. Recovery resources can be difficult to navigate; this initiative also offers a Community Liaison to offer training, support, crisis intervention, and resource navigation through certified professionals.
The estimated annual economic impact of substance use across the United States is $442 billion according to the Surgeon General. Through increased health, wellness, and productivity, fewer missed days of work, and higher rates of retention, employees in recovery can save an employer around $8,500 per year (Shatterproof).
